Cox Cares: Cox Scholarship Fund

The Cox Scholarship Fund was founded in 1986 as the brainchild of Richard Thorpe, Cox Sales Manager, in honor of Bill Cox, Sr. and Ed Cox. A total of $425,000 has been given to the recipients of Cox Scholarships. Since inception the Fund has helped 120 students. Originally, the highest scholarship awarded was $800; this amount has grown to $4,500 in 2008.

Activites of the Cox Scholarship Fund in 2008:
  • 86 Employees contributes $15,441.25 to the fund.
  • Scholarships were awarded to 14 students.
  • Five Memorial gifts were received for the following individuals:
Tommy Cox (Father of Cyndi Johnson)
Johnny Sanders (Friend of Bill Cox, Sr.)
Doug Kelly (Father of Cox Employee Trista Kelly)
Ben Laney (Father of Cox Employees Teri Padgett
Richard Thorpe (former Cox Employee)
  • A generous contribution was made by Tom Vernon in honor of Bill Cox, Sr.

Scholarship Eligibility:

Any child of a Cox employee under 25 years of age is eligible as long as they are enrolled full-time at a 2 to 4 year college or university. All scholarship recipients must maintain at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average.
