Dricon Fire Retardant Treated Wood
For almost 30 years, Dricon FRT wood has performed as intended in countless
structures in the US, Canada, Europe, and other areas around the world.
Dricon FRT wood will not spread fire like ordinary wood. Chemically treated
for protection in the event of a fire, Dricon FRT wood develops less smoke
and will not promote the spread of fire. Strict testing of Dricon FRT wood
has resulted in acceptance by model building codes. Dricon FRT wood may be
substituted for materials classified as non-combustible in certain building
types designated by the model building codes. And Dricon FRT wood offers a
40-year roof warranty that covers both materials and labor, plus a 40-year
preservative warranty and warranty options for truss manufacturers.
Cox Industries was one of the first treaters in the U.S. to
produce Dricon FRT.
When Dricon FRT wood was introduced in 1981, it came from Cox. A pioneer in
wood preservation advancements, Cox was the first company to produce the
Dricon brand. Cox has been processing this wood ever since, supplying
dealers with Dricon lumber and plywood for commercial, institutional, and
residential structures.

How Dricon Fire Retardant Treated Wood Works
The Dricon formulation is based on fire retardant chemicals having a high
molecular weight and a very limited solubility. The solution is
pressure-impregnated into the wood. When the wood is exposed to fire, Dricon
chemicals help reduce flame spread and smoke development by reacting with
the combustible gases and tars and converting them to carbon char and
harmless carbon dioxide and water.
